About

The slightly longer version.

A bit about who I am and what I care about.

01 · Origin

Born in Seoul.

I was born in Seoul, but I grew up entirely in the US. I don't speak the language, so it's a place I'm from more on paper than in any way I can claim. Even so, there's a pull. I'd love to go someday.

From a distance I've fallen for the countryside, the food, and a lot of the music and shows. It's an odd thing, feeling tied to a place I've never been.

What I admire most is harder to point at: the attention to detail, the discipline, the constant push to get better, and a preference for harmony over friction. I try to hold onto some of that in my own work.

02 · A daily thing

Coffee, always.

One cup a day, every morning, no exceptions. I've been into specialty coffee on and off for years, and I still get excited trying something new. I like knowing where the beans come from, and I look for roasters who are honest about how they source. The long-shot dream is to retire someday and open a coffee shop of my own.

03 · At work

What I care about, at work.

What matters to me is doing work that means something and being useful to the people I work with. I'm idealistic, but not the idle-dreamer kind. I care about integrity, and I think about how what I say and do lands on other people before I act. I'm not settled until I've done what I know is right.

As a manager, I don't like wielding the title. I'd rather treat people as equals and give them room to work the way they work. I lead by example more than by oversight. I need to feel a real sense of purpose in what I do. Coasting on autopilot has never held my attention for long. When I can see where something could go, that's what keeps me moving toward it.

One of the most widespread trees in North America. I've always had a soft spot for it. It turns scarlet in fall, and it's shown up everywhere I've lived.
